Sheridan Sechter Founder & Publisher | Borne out of my desire to recognize other women for their achievements
in their careers, their families and their communities, Flourish!
Magazine was launched in Kansas City, Mo in January 2003. The response
was incredible with hundreds of women emailing our offices to express
their gratitude and the sentiment of 'finally, there's something just
for us'.
Within two short and very busy years, the company was recognized by the
Small Business Administration as the Small Business Publisher of the
Year for its efforts in supporting and promoting small business via
Flourish! Magazine's cutting-edge content that included people profiles
along with business and lifestyle education and advice. I was living my
dream by helping others live theirs. It was an incredible chapter.
| As Flourish! grew, so did the demand for live events produced by the magazine's publishing company and soon those took on a life of their own. It was apparent that women (and a few really tuned-in men) needed a place to connect in a laid-back, fun environment with their peers. The people who connect with the Flourish! community appreciate the unique spirit of sharing, encouraging and inspiring one another that is experienced at these events. And, while business is discussed, this is not a hard-sell, 'collect as many business cards as you can' community. Everyone leads with what they can do to help someone else. That is truly remarkable. As my interests and awareness shifted both by some huge successes along with some personal challenges, my priorities changed. Yes, I am one of those who, at times, has to learn the hard way. I was no longer interested in working 14 hour days to make a printing deadline nor did I want to work 60 or 70 hours a week much of the year so that I could meet the demands of running two companies (I also own an advertising agency). In short, in 2011, at the age of 46, I decided to put my health and happiness at the top of the priority list. So, Flourish! Magazine was placed on hiatus. The Flourish! community is as strong as ever and I'm so happy to have learned what is truly important and special about Flourish! and that is providing people an avenue for making genuine connections and the educational and inspirational information that helps them live the beautiful life they envision. Life is a journey, and it's all good!! Best,

Once we have the new date confirmed, we will update our web site and send out the information in an e-blast.
Your Guide to Outwitting Embezzlers, Thieves and Scallywags
In 2010, Cheryl Obermiller discovered that her company accountant had embezzled nearly a million dollars in a scheme that lasted for almost eight years. Not only did this cause serious problems for Obermiller Construction Services, but it also resulted in her accountant, a young wife and mother, being sentenced to 33 months in the federal penitentiary. Shrugging off the cloak of the victim, Cheryl decided to step up and share with others some easy tips for ensuring this doesn't happen to you. Think you can't be bothered with numbers? Think again.
